Storyline ~

Gone With the Wind is premiering, and Hitler is invadingPoland, but this family is much more concerned withwho is going to the prestigious social gala, "Ballyhoo." For Southern Jewish singles, the Ballyhoo Ball was the place to be on New Year's Eve in Atlanta. For their parents, it was an ideal opportunity to engage in a bit of high-stakes matchmaking.

Boo is sure that this year's dance could well be her unfortunate daughter's very last chance to find a suitable mate. Uncle Adolph introduces them to his new young assistant, Joe. Boo considers him their inferior, but when he turns down Lala's invitation to the ball, she is infuriated. Things get even worse when Joe falls for Lala's cousin.

Romantic entanglements and stubborn prejudice will combine to tear this family apart before reuniting them more strongly than ever.
